Taking the Politics out of Abortion

Friday, November 21st, 2008

The fact that human life should be protected has nothing to do with being Democratic, Republican, Independent, Christian, Muslim or what-ever-you-choose-to-be. It does have A LOT to do with being a human being and respecting human life with awe and wonder. Pregnancy?

Personally, I really like the position of the medical community (the community that I’ve talked to) and the unwavering position of Catholic church (of which I am not a member). Put simply, “Life begins at the moment of conception. It’s not a matter of faith…it’s simply a scientific FACT.”Pregnancy?

As a member of the human family, how can we allow any member of society to arbitrarily “choose” to end the life of another human being? We protect human beings regardless of race, gender, iq and advanced age. So, what about the human being who is just as much human as you and I but who has yet to take his or her first breath? Isn’t the unborn baby a human being? Or are the excited parents who name “their baby” merely naming a “mass of tissue?” Just try telling that to the 20-something year old mother who is shopping for baby clothes, buying a crib and getting an ultrasound so the pink and blue don’t get mixed up.  Just say, “Hey…why are you buying stuff for a mass of tissue?” Right!
